I bought both the canvas and the latch tool when I visited Very Crafty in Lower Largo in Fife the other day and I couldn't wait to get started. I first saw this wonderful technique on Linda's (Purple Missus) blog. I had lots of different painted papers and thought this would be a great idea to use them up. The technique is from Traci Bautista's book (there is a DVD as well) Collage Unleashed, it's great fun.
As with cooking recipes I never follow directions directly I always add a little something else just as we all do. I used the painted kitchen paper for the cover. I started with a whole piece the size of the cover and cut squares and rectangles from other pieces and layered them on top. I then stamped and stencilled over the whole piece. I cut a piece of craft vinyl and machine quilted through the layers. The vinyl safeguards the painted and decorated kitchen paper - this is my added ingredient.

Great book Carol and that piece in your previous post is fabulous. I haven't done much experimenting with UTEE but I really like the effect that you got with it.
Love the journal, I've just done my first as well and I can see they will become addictive.
Carol this just looks like you had the most brilliant fun making it. Its lovely, well done.
oooooo I love how your book turned out. Awesome!
Super, Carol!
This is totally lovely! Funnily I just got off ebay ordering a latch hook tool whan I came accross your post! One more week and i can play!!!
Oh this is really interesting! I like the idea of putting a vinyl layer - it's that bit more robust. That spine is great - so textured; I must go check out that site you mentioned.

This is gorgeous! I have Traci's book and have made several journals, but haven't tried a canvas-spined one yet (still trying to figure out the best way to attach the canvas). Anyway, I love your journal!
