Another Vessel

This is another vessel I have been working on. I didn't do any sketching for this piece it just evolved from an idea in my mind. I visualised the finished piece and worked from there. Actually some of my best work is done this way. I mentioned in a previous blog entry that my next vessel was going to be black and gold - that's as much as I knew, the colour was my starting point.

I started with black tissue paper which I crushed and bonded to pelmet vilene. I then stitched it using various built-in embroidery stitches using black thread. I was looking for texture rather than colour at this stage. I rubbed the whole thing with treasure gold. I cut the brass shim into slips, some I crimped using a crimping tool and other pieces I left plain. I then stitched them using free motion stitching to the background

The edges are satin stitched, the lining is batik fabric.

I have also been busy finishing a book cover. This is a base of silk with a layer of painted black lutrador, a layer of Irise film and a variegated chiffon scarf my friend Dianne (Magpies Envy) sent me a while back. I stitched through all layers and heated with the heat tool. I mixed some bronze powder with Ormalene and applied it on top of the piece. The photograph doesn't show the irridescence of the Irise film and the colour is not true to the original which is more bronze than the blue/grey you see here.

Oh Carol this is for your vessels, fabric and all the stuff I missed in the past month or so. Dummy me I didn't know when you bookmark a blog that you have to update it. Here I am checking your blog and nothing new so I just went on my daily business thinking you must be busy doing other stuff. Wow you have been really busy.
