Old but New

One of my students was asking about water soluble fibres last week and so I dug out my old samples I made about 5 or 6 years ago. This one was stitched using Avalon by Madeira on velvet using free motion embroidery. I also used Irise paper with this sample.

I used water soluble paper to make this bag. I drew the Celtic design on the paper and layered it on tulle and using a free motion zigzag I "drew" with the machine around the whole design. I then rinsed away the paper. The cord was made on the machine as were the beads at the bottom of the bag. I made the tassel and hand stitched the bugle beads around the outside edge. I love this little bag.
This little stork scissor bag was made using Romeo water soluble. You don't need a hoop when using Romeo as it is quite thick, it does take a little longer to dissolve. I free motion stitched the bag shape on the romeo - it is heavily stitched. The handle is a cord made on the sewing machine. The flowers were stitched using the Bernina 180 with embroidery unit and hand stitched in place. If you have visited my web site you will have seen these on my embroidery page. As I say they are old to me but will be new to my students and perhaps to some visitors to my blog.

I finished my article for Fiber & Stitch. If you want to know about Evolon and what you can do with it AND learn how to make a book using Evolon and Punchinella then check out the next issue of Fibre & Stitch.

Carol these are fabulous! I'm not familiar with Irise paper - what is that?

these look great! I've often entertained the thought of using disolvable, but haven't ventured there in my experimenting yet :-)
