New Music. New Technique .........

I have been feeling pretty dreadful this past few days. It's just a cold but it certainly makes you feel miserable. During the summer months I usually work outside in the "wet" studio, my little log cabin that Norman and I built last summer. I love it out there but this past few days I haven't felt like going out to it. I have been working in my studio upstairs in the house. It's a lovely space and I had forgotten how lovely it was to work in here. It's looking a bit untidy at the moment because I have been working on a new piece.

I love Alison Moyet and have been lucky enough to see her live. I was delighted to hear she had a new CD. Norman brought it in for me yesterday. With that playing and a new technique I saw on the Quilt Show - Piping Hot Curves by Susan K Cleveland - I have been in my element.
It didn't take me long to get to grips with it as I have used piping many times before but hadn't applied it to curves. Very cool. It's on my design wall at the moment while I consider what type of border to put on ........ hmmmm! I think a cup of hot chocolate is in order whilst I think.

Norman is out this afternoon running his new train - this is it's inaugural run. It's a beautiful day - I hope it runs for him. Steam engines have a mind of their own sometimes.

A little while later...............
Here it is with the borders. I decided to add an accent of red to "lift" the red piping on the blocks. It's a 1" strip folded in half right sides together. It adds both colour and texture. I thought I might add a piped border but sadly I didn't have enough piping cord (another trip to Norman Cummings in Linlithgow for some more I think). I think this works better. What do you think?

Sorry you are under the weather - hope you feel better soon.

The piping looks great! Just that tiny touch of another colour.

I like what you are doing with the piping. I got Susan's book and tool after I saw her in The Quilt Show. I have a postcard exchange coming up that I want to try the technique on. Hope you feel better soon.

that curved pipping looks great -- the accent it adds really adds sparkle..

Sorry to hear you are under the weather. Hope you feel up to snuff real soon.

Your piece really does look good with the piping, it makes it pop.

I really like this piece, it looks quite interesting. I think the red piping and border is very complimentary to the rest of your fabrics.

Feel better soon.

The piping really works. Think of the possibilities. What a nice space to work in. I hope you get over the cold quickly. Sandy

The red works a treat! Gosh if that is your workroom when it is untidy I wouldn't dare show you mine! Mine's worse than that when it's tidy! Hope you feel better soon Carol.

I think the folded trim accents the piping better than more piping would have. It is just that tad different to compliment rather than compete with the piping. Sometimes the best things happen when you have to make do with what you have on hand, don't they?
