Expierments with Fusible Thread

I normally use fusible thread for applique and bindings etc. I was playing around with some fusible thread and coloured foil yesterday with some interesting results.

I laid some of the fusible thread on fabric and laid Jones Tones foil on top. I ironed it using some baking parchment to cover the foil and it worked well. I applied a little more thread and used a second colour of foil - it hasn't photographed well but I used gold and purple foil.

I did some free motion quilting and embroidery and applied some red foil this time.
I thought I would try using some built-in embroidery stitches (I used the Bernina for this). As you can see it has worked quite well. I think I removed the foil a bit too soon as it has missed little bits. I may try some other stitches and see how it works.

HOw clever of you. I've had fusible thread sitting here for ages and not used it. Maybe now I will. Sandy

Very clever idea Carol. I haven't used the fusible thread yet. I'll be interested in seeing some more of your experiments with it and the foil.

Very interesting! Do you have a favorite brand or type of fusible thread. I've had trouble with it breaking when I sew. Maybe it's too old?
