Two More NYC Blocks Made

My wall hanging is moving along nicely. I managed to get a further two blocks made yesterday.

These blocks are not as difficult as they appear. If you stitch a drunkards path block first to get used to stitching the curves you will be fine. The inner curves are the most difficult because of their size but I start with these ones and work towards the outside of the block which is the easiest curve to stitch. 6 down 10 to go!

Your foundation pieced sections can be printed to either freezer paper which you can buy in ready cut pieces for your printer or alternatively you can print them onto fine sew-in vilene which can be left in saving you the painstaking task of removing the paper. My blocks are 7" x 7" so the pieces are very small with the result the paper can be tricky to remove.

I have started to think about whether or not to add a border or just bind it. I will try out some border ideas in Electric Quilt first and see how they look.

I am using a CD of New York Beauty blocks by Karen K Stone - it can be linked to Electric Quilt and Quilt Pro. I have altered some of the blocks.

If you want to try simpler blocks and more abstracts NYC blocks the Radiant New York Beauties by Valori Wells is a great book.

Here is a link to blocks you can download. They are in PDF format. I just found these as I was looking for a source to share with you. New York Beauty Blocks for download.

THANKS for the link! I've been toying with trying a New York Beauty block, but have never gotten to it... I'd never thought of using a foundation for it and that makes it seem a whole lot more manageable! Maybe over the break I get at Christmas....

As I can't even piece something without curves, I think this is a bit over my head. But I love to see yours. And you've got a new header - it looks nice. You did that on the computer?

Thank you for all the explanations and the link to blocks. I've added it to my favourites. I think I'll try some in a rather near future.

Carol, I really enjoy seeing all your New York Beauties blocks. They are progressing quite nicely. That quit is on my to-do list to make, but it is way down the list, because I need to acquire some skills first!
