Paisley re-visited

This isn't a new piece of work. In fact I made this piece when I was doing Maggie Grey's machine embroidery course about 5 years ago (how time flies). The design is stitched on water soluble paper on a backing of kunin felt. Once I had finished stitching, using rayon and metallic threads, I washed away the paper and once dry heated with the heat gun. This gives a lovely lacy effect. The reason I brought it out again is I had one of those what if moments as I was working with the paisley design for my current bead project. My idea is along the same lines as this piece but perhaps a little different. I had to get it out again just in case I was covering old ground which happens to me sometimes.

Do you have a symbol or design that crops up regularly in your work?

Hi Carol, This is really beautifull!!! I mentioned it on my blog before, my symbol is the spiral. It crops very often in my work.

I seem to get diamonds coming up in my work a lot? I did a tree project and a water project and ended up with diamonds both times? Not what you imagine from these subjects?

This is lovely Carol, I like the way the felt has melted away.

Wow, that is gorgeous! As much as i appreciate paisleys, i never seem to use them--this one makes it VERY appealing to try them :}
Eyes are generally what pops up in my work, and spirally circles.

This is fantastic Carol, I just love it.
I love the spiral, but I also have a few others that seem to crop up all the time. I think I'll mention a few in my next post.

Looks marvellous, Carol! Love the way it looks so delicate.

Spirals come into my work a lot, and I find I come back to the same flower motifs too, ones that I drew from flowers in my garden about eight years ago, to use as quilting motifs. They are simple shapes but recognisable as specific flowers.

Love the colour and design Carol, think we all have favourite symbols which we use. Often others recognise it before you do.

Best wishes

Maggie

Carol, this is so lovely. What will you do with it? I love the colors. I find stars show up in my work a lot, along with pink and red. ;-)

BTW, I finally got the link thingy to work, per your instructions. Thanks again--you are such a gem.

It is yummy Carol. I do tend to do a few symbols over & over in my free motion doodling. I don't quite know why, except that they "Feel" good!

This is fabulous. Did you know Maggie has a blog now?
Birds are what I keep finding. It's not even as though I am a bird lover. The symbolism of flying free and peace is what brings them out in a lot of my quilts.
