Fabric covered Boxes

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to take a class at the C&T Teachers Retreat in Moraga, California with Linda Johansen. We made fabric bowls and I had a wonderful time. I have since bought her other books on fabric vases and fabric boxes. Before I could move on to my other commitments I had to make boxes for a box swap on one of the groups I am a member of.

These are my boxes.
I used batiks for the outside and inside. They measure 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". You can see from the first photograph that I used my cropodile to add eyelets. I plan on adding some hand made tassels to the ends of the lids. I will be mailing them next week.

Today I am pasting wallpaper, Norman is hanging it. How can that be craft related you might ask. Well I plan on squirrelling away some of the wallpaper paste so that I can have some fun making silk paper. It's years since I made my first silk paper so I am looking forward to making some again - that will be my treat after my stint as labourer.

This has inspired me to make one for my DD with a slight adaption to turn it into a door stop. Apparently a door stop is a must at university, and I could make her a matching box as well.....
If only there were more hours and DH didn't want to go sight seeing

Great box. I know Linda from the Portland Columbia Stitchery Guild. Also, we both did some testing for Hewlitt Packard for their quilt label program.
Leftover wall paper can be painted on to create more stuff to use in collage. Sandy

Love these boxes Carol - what super gifts, and I don't suppose they take much fabric, do they.
Wallpaper paste.... silk paper....no, I won't ask (your blog ALWAYS fills my head with so many questions!) Val

Looking at your previous post - what lovely gifts you received and I must admit enjoying seeing the things your friend in Japan send you - they are always so gorgeous too!
