Here I am back at last! I haven't spent much time in the studio over the past few days. Thursday was my last teaching day for a week, mid term break. It was a wonderful afternoon and they are beavering away with their rail fence on point quilts and various other projects. Maureen brought in her silver plate and ribbon for best Sampler Quilt.
Friday we spent in Glasgow at the Art shop. I needed one or two things for the Printmaking 101 online class. Well as you can imagine I also came home with things I didn't particularly need! I did find some Treasure Gold. Having read Maggie Grey talk about it for many years I can try it at last! To be honest I never really looked that hard for it as I had other things I could use instead but seeing it there in the shop I couldn't resist it. Then we went into Edinburgh to get Norman a new Mac laptop. (He has a Windows one he bought last year but since he changed his main PC to a Mac he was itching to get a new Mac laptop - he's like a kid with a new toy!) So the day went by and I didn't get into the studio. I did post Dianne's "book". She will be in England right now, I hope she has a great time, I also hope she likes what I did, worry, worry worry.
I popped into the studio yesterday and couldn't get going, have you had one of these days? I tidied up the studio and put all the things away I had been using. Clearing the decks for the next project whatever that might be.
This morning I did some housework and after lunch went into the studio. I had been reading Stitch, Dissolve, Distort and in it they have a chapter on felting, hand and machine. I bought a Babylock Embellisher last year some time. I haven't done much with it so today I set it up and made the piece you see above. Ooooo! it looks a little like the gorgeous fabric Kate from my Surfacing group made with the silk for Carol McPhee, not nearly as nice as Kate's piece though. I felted some silk tops onto commercial felt. This will make a good background for an experimental piece. I shall practice some more with the embellisher over the next week as I would like to use it in the next challenge - if it fits in with the theme. Challenge #2 will be available on 29th of this month and since I will be away for a few days meeting my fellow Quilt Judge students and tutors I will have less time to get it finished. The more I can experiment now the better prepared I will be when I get back.
I also had a play with my flower attachment. The same book had a picture of trilobal fibres which had been embellished with the flower attachment. I have the fibres and once I get to grips with the attachment, tensions and the like, I shall try it out on the fibres. I will post pictures of the results later.
