Punchinella Book

It's finished. I added some Swarovsky crystals to the front which just finished it off, for the moment anyway. I may add a little something else to the cover but for the moment it feels finished.

I left the spine fairly simple in the end. I am not sure if you can see it from the picture but you can see the ends of the signatures through the punchinella which I thought was a nice touch. I just made some thread wrapped beads and added a few to the spine. Just enough I think.

It has turned into a lovely book and I will be making more of these for sure. Working through this design process has given me ideas for other books but they will have to wait. I need to get my course work done to send to my tutor by the end of the month and I haven't started writing it up yet. I seem to have found too many other things to do instead.

Hi Carol,

As a quilter I've enjoyed your blog, but I'm enjoying your tutorials even more. At the moment I'm playing with adding a favicon. I always wondered how they were done but didn't know what they were called!

Your instructions are fine, but I'm not seeing the image I expect to see, when I add my blog to favourites. I'd be very grateful if we could discuss this, but I'd also understand if you have no desire to go into helpdesk mode!!!

This is lovely, Carol. And I see you're a Harry Potter fan too! You can see the different book cover we have in NZ on my blog http://shirleygoodwin.blogspot.com - and also my comments echo yours regarding adult HP readers!

It's a lovely book. It is easy to get distracted when an idea becomes foremost in our mind. Sandy

This book has turned out really well Carol, my favourite one so far I think. Your idea for the spine is wonderful. Well done.

Thank you ladies. I have emailed those I can separately.

Dianne I mean you can see the ends of the pages through the punchinella. It looks quite nice and the next book I make I plan on decorating the spine, not sure what with yet, and you will see the decoration through the holes of the punchinella.

Carol this is brilliant. I've got rolls of punchinella laying around and now I have something to use them for! The book is wonderful.

Fantastic book Carol!! I love the crystals on the front. Is punchinella the same sequin waste?

You don't need to answer my question (above), as I just reread your other post and you answered it for me!

Great bones for the book :} How does the punchinella stand up to constant flexing this way?

Lovely book, Carol. I use sequin waste quite often, but never thought of using it as a stencil - d'oh. Thanks for the inspiration!

Arlee,

I thought about the strength or otherwise of the Punchinella when I designed the book. I don't think it's strong enough to stand up to a lot of bending, just as I didn't like it for rag rugging, and so the punchinella is attached to the outside cover and the inside, or signatures, will take the strain of opening and closing. The punchinella is really just decoration.

That was a good question, thanks.

Absolutely beautiful! I've just begun working with bookbinding techniques. I will surely give this one a try.
